Time Out

As you may know, I am expecting our third child in a matter of weeks...days, even. This makes me so happy! Although, this pregnancy has gone by so fast that I wouldn't mind going right up to my due date!

I thought I should let you know that I won't be booking any photo shoots (unless you've already booked) from July 24th - October 2. I know some of you either have gift certificates (that expire) or had plans of getting photos done soon - I still have a couple of dates left open between now and July 24th. Please contact me so we can work something out.

I'm so excited for this time in my life, but I know the first few weeks with a newborn will be demanding, so I think it's wise to take some time. From time to time, you may still be able to catch me over here.

Thank you all so much for the opportunity to come into your life and photograph your sweet families and be a part of your life's memories. It really means alot to me that I get to share in these moments while doing something that I really love. I love being able to somehow freeze the simple and beautiful things I see everyday. It really makes me stop and appreciate the minutes that normally seem to fly by.

I'm blessed - overwhelmed, actually. ♥ Thank you.

Unwelcome photography habits: part 1

I love my son...and the fact that he's in this photo making such a cute expression makes me love it. BUT, the grain in this photo makes me cringe. Don't get me wrong, grain is nice sometimes...but not in complete daylight! I find it just takes alot of depth and quality away from the image.
I almost always shoot manual because I love being able to control shutter speed and aperture to get the look I want. Often times I go straight to check those settings and forget about one very important thing: ISO. So, as in the case of this photo, I end up shooting the first few frames in a completely wrong ISO and ruin a perfectly good shot in perfectly good light.
This was shot at 1250 ISO (!), which I had my camera set on from a previous low-lit situation. I should have had it set at 200 and then set my shutter speed and aperture accordingly. Live and learn.
The photo looks a little better in black and white, but still not quite where I'd like it to be. Note to self: Check ISO before you start shooting.

Andrea

There's something about taking photos in the Spring that completely inspires me. It probably has something to do with the fresh beauty that just seems to pop up out of nowhere.

On Monday I had the privilege of photographing the gorgeous and talented Andrea Gal. Her radiant beauty is the perfect compliment to her stunning voice. Some of the photos we took Monday will be added to her new site (not yet running - www.andreagal.com) shortly.
